Astilbe seeds??

My Astilbe's bloomed so large and beautiful this year!! But now that they are about done blooming..The flowers are turning brown, are the flower heads the actual seeds??..I have never attempted to save these, but would like to this year...so do they produce seeds somewhere else on the plant? or just save the flower heads?

I got astilbe to start from seed ONCE by crumpling the whole seed head into a tray of potting soil and stirring it well, then misting. It is my understanding that these particular seeds do not have a long shelf life (ie, if you do not use them right away they won't be any good). Go ahead and try it once the flower dries out completely--what have you got to lose?
