nervous about marigold seeds

My marigold seeds (crackerjacks, sparky, and petites) are grey, not black. I have harvested only seed heads with dried blossoms and stalks. Some of the pods had even cracked, yet the seeds are grey. My main concern is offering them for trade. I don't want to send "bad" seeds. Every marigold seed I have ever planted has been black. Are the grey ones viable?

Appreciate the help and thanks in advance,

-bsr
