hme the answer is Yes and No. I surmise your mother is NOT allergic to the PLANT, but probably allergic to fungus spores which EVERY flower pot emits. So your mother should be allergic to any plant in soil.

Maybe hydroculture can solve that problem.

I certainly agree with the above response. If you have peat moss in the soil that can cause molds. YOu may want to get a spray for molds, before you toss the plant, it would be the soil, and not the plant, take out Organic Matter, use a soil, that just doesn't have it. They can grow in pure pumice and wash clean horticultural sand. Large grain not beach sand or playground sand which is too fine. No I haven't heard of that. Sans are highly toxic, she may have had a reaction to it once. Is it possibe she bit one as a child? I had a pet which died a horrible death because it took a chomp out of one of my sans. Sans are on most safe lists, but because of the sapoins in the tissue they could cause an allergic reaction and death on injestion. Unless she decided to eat some, I'd says she was safe from it. She would probably be allergic to any type of rush or cattail also.
