The tiny tan stick is the seed. The fluffy white part is what helps the seed travel in the wind, on an animal's fur, whatever. The dark thing you're talking about could be a dried up portion of a petal-- the colors darken a lot when dried. I have some gerbera daisy seed taken from red flowers, and the bits of petal fragments are black.
