Here is the flower. I bought 3 on sale for $2 each at home depot. It was just labeled salvia. I am hoping it is perennial for my zone 6B. Thanks for any ideas!

It's some sort of Salvia microphylls os microphylla x greggii. Which one is harder to tell without an image of the whole plant to gauge its size, amongst other details.

I like the use of the penny for scaling.

Thanks so much for the information. It is about 18 inches tall and 12 " wide, woody at the base. Do you have any suggestions about overwintering it in my 6b zone? I haven't planted them yet-still in pots. Do you think I might have better luck keeping them in pots and storing in the garage? Or plant and then mulch?

Given the time of year and your weather, I'd say the garage is your best bet. You may want to bring it out for warm spells with nights at or above freezing, especially as winter turns to spring.

Don't overwater, just keep damp You might want to bundle it for the coldest days or provide a temporary source of warmth if you get sustained weather in the single digits or teens outside.
