Salvias for medicinal use ?

Ive read a lot about the medicinal use of salvia , probably most true in countries where the plant originated. In this country people grow them for their beauty and for attracting nature. Ive not read any posts of anyone talking about how they used it for any other reason. So has anyone used this plant for medicinal and if so for what and how would you use it safely and is it really safe to use and what is the safe way to use it, if so

There is a lot of info online about Salvia divinorum, but it is being used as either as an entheogen or more commonly as a legal high. See Daniel Siebert's site for details.

Salvia miltiorrhiza or Chinese red sage (Dan-shien) contains danshione and other oxygenated diterpenes that have the same action as Librium and Valium at about 1/7th the activity but without side effects. The same principles are found in other Chinese sages, and related compounds have other effects.

There is supposed to be a sage from Iran which also has unusual properties.

The Iranian sage, would that be Salvia hydrangea?

I think it is Salvia persepolitana Boiss.
