You could put one door at a right angle to the other, or, I once lived in a back to back duplex. If you didn't know there was another unit in the back you'd think it was just one house.

Thanks, but I should have mentioned, the property is only accessible from the front. The drive to the garages will have to circle around from the front.

I am wanting to build exactly the same thing for us and my in laws. I have a son with special needs and I am planning on him living in that space eventually. I have been trying to find plans and found this thread. Have you found any websites with pictures? I have searched for many hours and can't find exactly what I am looking for.

Some photos of excellent front entrances that do not look like duplexes. The best would be
to have your garages connected and not the actual house, so your entrances can truly be completely separate.

Do you need one floor living for parents? Up/down, side by side?

Mmthill, so far I haven't found an existing floor plan for this project. I have pieces of what I want, but we are having to go to an architect/designer to get exactly the design we want. We are planning to use the single entry, into a shared foyer, which will go into the separate sides, OR a large front porch on an angle, with entries on each leg of the angle. The house MUST look like a single family dwelling, due to the restrictions of the sub-division. Good luck with your project!

I realize this is an older thread, and so I'm wondering if you've gone ahead and designed your home? I'm looking for the exact same idea for my sister and I to have on one lot but it's proving difficult to find any plans that suit. Our homes would also have to appear as one single family to meet the requirements of the community. I'd love to hear what you finally came up with if the project is underway or complete! Thank you

We did. Although it is evident that it is two separate homes if you look, no one in our community (which had the same restrictions) has said anything. Our home sits on 10 acres though, so the neighbors are not close.

Need advice about splitting my long doublr wide into 2 separate spaces. 2bd/2ba, fireplace, kitchen, large door in middle to separate. I can easily convert 1/2 my 14x12 closet into a hidden kitchen. My problem is the air. l want to be the one controlling the air and heat. What do you think fair temps should be while in the house and then while out? Any suggestions?
