Herman's Pride is not nearly as invasive as the yellow archangle. (lamiastrum). You could also try Epimedium, Christmas Ferns, Geranium macrorrhisum, Solomon's Seal, Geranium canadensis, (invasive), ophiogpogon, Hakonachloa, Carex, Rhodea japonica, Brunnera, Pulmonaria, Corydalis, Polemonium.

I am currently in love with epimedium. I can only grown the yellow kind really successfully here in IN, but you in Z7 should be able to find some with a more interesting flower. This plant , once established, seems to thrive on neglect. It stays put, forming lovely mounds of heart shaped foliage. Doesn't mind tree roots. Good luck.

I see this is not a recent post, but if you are still looking...

I love the Geranium macrorrhizum that shadyplace recommended because of the fresh scent of its leaves, plus the mounding growth habit of the plant suppresses weeds and they are not particularly attractive to deer/rabbits! As a bonus, they have a brief flowering period in spring, but I love the plant primarily for the refreshing fragrance that greets me on the breeze.
