Gardening in Shade

Medium-tall annual in shade

Hi,

I was referred here by the annual forum.

I want to plant a medium-high (about one foot) annual in cinder blocks. They are in shade and receive about 2 hours of sun at end of day.

I want to put one per cinder block, so it should be something that looks good solo.

Coleus are pretty, not sure about the height but you can pinch them back to be bushy. Impatiens? Begonia? Are the blocks sitting on the ground so the roots can go down?

Yes the roots will go thru the hole in the block into the ground.
I don't like coleus- I know they're good for shade.
I have in mind something that will be tall and not bushy-
something with a stem and flower at the end, except that anything I'm familiar with like that is a sun plant.

well tomorrow I'm making a nursery run, maybe I will come across something.
