Did you have to fortify the vanity and the studs in order to support the weight of the sink?

No extraordinary support is needed for concrete sinks or countertops these days... if your concrete artisan is using up-to-date methods. Modern GFRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete) only weighs in at about 10 pounds per square foot if it is an inch thick. It only needs 3/4", even with simple mixes, to be more than strong enough. There are several reinforcing options available in addition to glass fiber. For some applications the concrete is cast at only 1/2" or less. If the sink in the photo was 7' long, 22" deep, with an 8" face, it would weigh less than two hundred pounds. This is far less than a simple 3 cm slab of granite would weigh.

We ship all over, but if you have questions or want to find a high quality concrete shop in your area feel free to contact me. I don't know who did this particular sink, but I know some great people in the Bay Area.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Errica,

I am part of a forum for concrete fabricators that started in the US and now has members all over the world.

Many on the forum run professional shops, but quite a few are more along the lines of enthusiasts. I couldn't find a professional capable of this level of work in Texas*. I'm not saying that one doesn'e exist. Not every shop in the country is a member, but most are. High performance cast concrete is a small industry where many of us know each other or at least know of each other. There is a world map showing members, and there are very few West of the Mississippi and East of the Rockies. I'm sure it's based largely on demand/interest and population density.
*If I'm missing someone in that region I mean no offense :-)

There are a growing number of shops that can produce high quality concrete, but it seems they are mostly near the East and West coasts.

Any of us with a professional shop can ship to you. We are based in the Seattle area. We shipped a piece to Key West, and it wasn't much more than it would have cost to ship to California.

I would love to cast a custom concrete sink for you. If you are interested or just have questions please feel free to contact me. You can also still search your local area for talent or check out other shops in the country.

    Regards,
