There are some evergreen, semi-evergreen(ratty looking in winter) and deciduous species and cultivars. I grow some of each. Several that are evergreen here in the climate, although some do best if sheared back just before growth starts in Spring to renew the foliage and allow the flowers to be more visible. I have a large container, exposed to all weather, of e. davidii near my back door that looks good all winter, and for some reason, blooms from Spring through Fall (although the description indicates it should just be flowering through June)
