Hi, I am a novice gardener working with some contained beds along the side of a walkway. That side gets 2-3 hours of direct sun around noonish and reflected light the rest of the day.

The other side of the walkway, where I only have only pots, gets direct afternoon sun for about 5-6 hours.

I put in a bunch of different annuals to test what might grow. My results from the container beds with only 2 hours direct sun are:

* impatiens: growing well but flowers are pale

* lobelia: extremely happy

* sunflowers: growing straight, haven't flowered yet

* strawberries: Sequoias very leafy and flowering for a second time, Allstars sulking

* nasturtiums: happy and flowering

* cosmos: flowering, but not doing much otherwise

* geraniums: flowering, leafy

* newly planted snapdragons, nicotiana, violas: doing fine

In the afternoon sun, I have a Big Beef tomato, which is growing well, flowering and setting fruit.

So can anyone who has had time to go thru the list tell me,

what does it all mean? My "goal" perennials are below:

* carnations

* Sweet William

* sweet peas

* small irises

* lilies

* scented-leaf geraniums

* freesia

* mini-hydrangeas, if there are such things

* lavender & other herbs

* all possible container vegetables (lettuce, peppers, you name it)

Do any or all of the above seem possible with the light I have, given what is working so far?
