Shade and Birdfeeders

Hi, I'm posting in this forum because I think posters/readers here may have actionable (read "inexpensive") solutions for me:

I live on the bottom floor of an apartment building and I started growing things in containers this year. Only problem is that my new upstairs neighbor has two birdfeeders that are attracting super destructive squirrels. I had to completely scrap my containers that had lettuces and carrots earlier due to their placement directly under one birdfeeder and my squash are struggling because the squirrels constantly dig in the soil looking for tasty seeds that have fallen from above.

Any suggestions for keeping seeds from falling into my containers by using a hanging or mobile shade contraption, without blocking sun? (probably wrong term but....) What I'm thinking of would be designed like a flipping chalkboard so that it can angle the seeds away. Anyone here made something similar?

I couldn't figure where else to post this and moving my containers is NOT an option because they are very heavy.
