Dirtdoctortoo: impatiens are amazingly forgiving, as long as there is water and heat. Have you tried overwatering them for a few days? I find it hard to believe there are enough chemicals in a used sparkler n the fountain water to kill the impatiens. What there might have been is some kind of fungus/algae in the water that the impatiens are reacting to. If it were me, I'd water them, and then water them again and see if they don't perk up some. Doesn't hurt to try. Keep them out of any direct sun for the next few days. Let me know if they come back to life at all. My curiosity is peaked. Kristine

They're deader than dead. All the leaves fell off then the stems turned yellow and seemed to be starting to rot. The kids threw a LOT of sparklers in there including the ones that burn green. I bet they had copper in them. Anyway I can't give you further progress reports or lack thereof since my hubby dumped the whole mess out. I may replace the soil and put an asparagus fern in the big 5 gallon crock or I may just wait until next year. We're only about 6 - 8 weeks off from frost here.
