I'd love to see what you're doing, EG... I live on the side of a steep hill and some kind of terraced garden will be my only option once I outgrow my current spot.

Thanks! I have a slight slope to my yard and the current 4x8 (outside dimension) box is on the flatest part, also made of landscape timbers. But we plan on a second bed this spring and it will be on more of a slope, so I needed this!

We have had about 40 cm's (about 1 1/2 feet) of snow the last couple days and 15cm more expected today so I am jealous of anyone being able to do this type of work at this time of year!

One comment on that is I have build plenty of retaining walls in the past and if you overlap the joints on every second row you will find that it will be a lot stronger.

Another option is to inset each row about 1/2 inch from the row below it. There is a natural tentency for these types of walls to want to bow out and this helps it a bit.

Mike - I truly appreciate you thoughts and input. You're correct, the corners do want to separate after a while. That's why I put some corner brackets on the inside. I just haven't got to that part yet. I don't like staggering the layers, because it doesn't look as good (IMHO).
