I'm so impressed with this desert performer! (pic)

I'm a person that LIVES in the scorching desert heat, but doesn't like the desert look; ie cactuses, rock, palms. As you can imagine, I have a hard time finding things that I LIKE that will grow in my garden without frying.

So when I found this supposedly heat tolerant, LUSH looking plant at the nursery called a "Whirlygig Daisy" (Osteospermum fruticosum). I thought 'Hah. Yeah right it will grow here'. Nevertheless, it was cheap and small and I bought it and planted it on the west side of my house.

Its almost mid-July now and I'm so impressed! This shrubby daisy has done so well in the heat. It gets a little water from sprinkler overspray.

Most of the other plants that get the afternoon sun here are sunburned and losing leaves by now. It's been 110+ since mid June. This one remains green and lush looking, nothing like a desert plant!

I hope to find more of them next year and use them throughout my garden to give it a lush cottagey-look.

Highly recommended by me!
