Some might consider it a weed. We have one in the front yard and it's seeds have sprouted in the neigbor's yard. An improvement I think. As for the falling over, I think that is just the nature of the plant. The stems are long and thin. Very tough plant though.

Thanks. So the plant is supposed to fall over. Mine had stems that were long and thin and when it started falling over I cut it back a lot. I hope I didn't kill it. Do you know if I should cut it almost to the ground before winter and will it sprout again next spring?

I've had to cut it back all summer. Last year I did cut it to the ground before winter and it came back just fine.

More sun might make it bushier, but mine has always been a bit floppy.

Trim it back in late winter.

I had some in my backyard in Phoenix (just moved to Tucson, though). They tended to flop over a lot, but this didn't prevent them from blooming like crazy. I noticed that they bloom a lot in the morning, then the flowers close up during the main heat of the afternoon. Trimming them a lot won't hurt them...they'll just grow back. So chop away.
