It's because that bit of folklore is a bunch of poppycock. What they DON"T like is very cold water on their leaves or to have their leaves wet while the sun is shining on them. (This latter is because the water droplets can act like the lens of a magnifying glass and cause the light to be too intense on the leaf.) When I water my terrs, I make no effort to avoid wetting the leaves of my AV's. They routinely get dowsed. Never have had a problem with the leaves.
