Once the tassels are up, they will pollinate the silks (in the crotch of the stalk and the leaves). Once that happens, it's only a few weeks more. If you have tassels starting, I would say inside a month to go!

This is exciting! I can't wait to eat some home grown silver queen. Thanks for the response. I have 32 stalks in a 1X8 row. Do I need to do anything in particular to help pollinate? I have heard shake the stalks. Hand polinate with a brush. Just let it be and let nature do the work. I was planning a little of all three.

Personally, I've never done anything to aid pollination. 1 x 8 might be a bit narrow though... You might want to consider shaking the stalks a bit once the tassels are up and the silks are showing.

Each silk is for a single kernel. You need pollen to land on EACH silk to get a kernel of corn to develop. If you get incomplete pollination, you will not get a full ear of corn. If you see a very fine dust coming from the tassel, then it is pollinating. Personally, I would do it on a very calm day. The wind could actually take too much pollen away from your plants. Good luck getting the timing right. As I've never done it, I can't give you any tips!
