Deer, squirrel, bluejays, local cats, oh my!

So, I'm busy planning a SFG in a 15'x15' corner of my yard. But I live in a semi-rural part of the suburbs that is overrun with deer, squirrels, skunks, scrub jays, and lots of other varmits and critters. LOL

The local blue jays are pretty agressive. I saw one swoop down and grab and eat a lizard yesterday. Talk about a "Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom" moment. LOL

Anyway, we also have tons of local and feral cats, and my mom just warned me of the danger of cats doing their business in your beds. (Never realized.)

And then there was a fresh pile of deer stuff right where I'm going to put my gardens. The deer here are bold, they'll hang out on the grass nibbling on anything they can find. I was going to do a deer fence, but I that won't keep out cats and squirrels. Or the birds.

So, I'm trying to figure out the easiest solution for all of these potential critters.

One idea is to construct a 6' or 8' deer fence, and then put some sort of netting across the top so nothing can get in. But that might look kinda ugly. Like a prison. Nothing could get in. LOL

Another ideas is to use mel's protective wire covers for every single bed, but that would be time consuming taking them off and on every time I want to get into the beds.

What do you all do?

Or am I being a freak trying to keep all these animals out with barriers?

Thanks!
