Tia...how tall are the plants right now?...

The winds finally died down last night. But boy do my tomato plants look saaaaaad. A couple of my peppers lost a couple bottom leafs but otherwise look ok.

I'm going to try and figure out how to post pictures. I apologize if I screw it up LOL.

Is there hope for them? Or do I need to call it a loss and go get some new started plants from the nursery?

They seem to be awfully tall and leggy to me. I would dig them up if they haven't been in the ground too long, snip off all the bottom branches and trench plant them so that just the top portion of the plant is above ground. They'll root along the stem and should be fine.

If any more high winds are predicted in your area, you could cover the plants with empty pots for protection.

Thanks!!! I ended up just calling it a loss and dug up all but 3. I didn't pay much for them, like $6 for 16 plants. I kept the strongest of each of 3 kinds and then 4th ones they were all trashed so I didn't keep them. I picked up a few more started stronger ones at the nursery last night and hope these ones work!

I used a piece of sheer curtain held up & around my peppers by sticks, that seems to be doing a good job as a windbreak for them. It's pretty windy where I live, and they were getting blown to the ground (they're not tall though) by the wind. The sheer cuts the wind enough that they aren't being flattened anymore.
