There were rhubarb plants in my yard when I bought the house. Unfortunately, by the time I moved in somebody had stolen them!

I think my grandfather used to grow Rhubarb here in full sun (with no problem) in his garden when I was young. I planted some last year in light shade, so we'll see how it does this year. It grew very well last year.

Never had any luck over here in west tn. zone 7. Grew about one year second year they bit the dust.

i saw a thing on Volunteer gardener about a guy growing rhubarb towards the nashville area......

I tried some quite a few years ago, but it did not survive. Been thinking of attempting it again.

Two success stories:
A neighbor said his Mother used to grow four different varieties just northeast of Knoxville. (He ate so much as a child that he got tired of it and hasn't tried since.)
A friend near Greeneville grows it successfully by pulling any potential mulch away from the roots before winter. Then remulches as spring approaches.
