Loved your post ! I am looking forward to hummingbirds.First discovered these last spring and bought a feeder and had edless hours of enjoyment over the season.
The butterflies, gold finches and hummers really loved our zinnias.I plan on planting more things this year to attract/feed them.Not exactly sure when to first put the feeder out though since we spotted the hummers in the last part of the season.

Heidi, it is my understanding that hummingbirds remember where they fed the previous year and often return to the same spot the following year. I try to have my feeders out by mid April so that I can also feed those that are migrating north.

Hi all,

I watch the migration map on the website I put below. If you look at the past years listed on the site, you can get a good idea when to put the feeders out. I have been puting mine out at the beginning of April.

I put mine out the last week of March...the scouts go ahead of the migration and look for the feeders...sometimes I don't see any hummers for a week or so, but I am ready!
