I am really new to gardening and ventured this year to try and do more planting forcing myself to teach my black thumb to turn green. Up until this year I have been walking death to plants but so far so good. SO keep that in mind...I m clueless and have a lot of questions and may jump around a bit with ideas and questions. My husband just came across a few bags of mulch in our barn which contain petunia seeds incorporated into it. I would like to do something with them. I happened to have purchased a couple of really pretty red and white petunias for my little ones to grow in their own pots which we have managed to keep alive. So I am trying to come up with a use for these bags of seeds my husband came across. We have no clue as to how old they are or if they are even going to grow so figured what the heck we may as well try. My square foot bed is in a raised bed made from a recycled twin mattress frame. We boxed the frame using aged Cypress boards we had on hand. I was thinking of maybe trying to use some the mulch to make a boarder around the raised bed. I have heard to people planting flowers to frame their sq ft vegetable beds but am not sure if this will work or if they may cause problems with my veggies. I have tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, leeks and onions in the raised sqft bed.

My other idea was using it to mulch under a young golden rain tree we have in the front yard. I probably have enough for both. We have virtually no landscaping other than a very large live oak in the front and have gradually started planting a few things here and there. So I am really not sure where to use this stuff. I have only one bed on the side of the house that I purposely let be taken over by and use for growing mint varieties and lemon balm.
