Can you be more specific about why you were "not happy with the results"?

Were your problems related to pest and diseases, or flavor of berries? overall vigor of the plants? crop yeild?

If you give us more info about what you were doing and why it wasn't working we'll be able to offer sugestions.

I should have jumped on this one earlier so I apologize. We tried a ton of different varieties over the years but the best (and the one we stuck with) is Surecrop...Fragaria ananassa. They aren't as easy to find now as they were 25 years ago but they were head and shoulders above every other kind out there. I know that most folks are sold on Tennessee Beauties but they don't hold a candle to Surecrop. For ease of growing, taste, size and sheer numbers you will never regret raising Surecrop. They are resistant to red stele and verticillium wilt, leaf spot, and leaf scorch. Hardy in Zones 4 to 8. I've seen them on the internet for $6.00 per 25 plants; $18.00 for 100 and $65 for 500. Call the Lincoln Co. Farmers Co-op to see if they have any for sale (931- 433-7171).

THANKS FOR THE INPUT, I GUESS WHEN IT GETS TO BE 95° NOT MUCH WANTS TO PRODUCE ANYWAY. MOSTLY I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE FLAVOR, I GREW UP IN IA & THE STRAWBERRY BED WAS PROBABLY 500 - 600 SQ. FT, THEY TASTED GREAT. THE ONES I HAVE BOUGHT LOCALLY DON'T HAVE MUCH FLAVOR EITHER. I WILL CHECK INTO SURECROP. THANKS

For taste, you might want to try the alpine strawberries. They are much smaller than the "regular" strawberries, but they are famous for their intense flavor -- AND they will fruit in part shade.
