Keep flooding there home with water,and they'll move

I have MAJOR MAJOR ANTS! I've been pouring water in their hills every time I see one. There seemed to be less in teh garden today and more on the ground around the garden. So we shall see what happens. I read that spraying them with soapy water helps too, along with hot pepper sprinkled on.

did you guys hear about the borax and sugar trix?

Do you think that would be safe to use? You don't spread it, just put it in a dish and leave it near your garden. They take the borax thinking it's sugar and feed it to the queen ant who gets poisoned and dies.

Although I would not necessarily use it in my SFG with veggies growing, I happen to know that Formula 409 kills ants on contact...

Ants are apparently good for the soil and to kill pests. Knowing that I still don't like them. DE is a 100% natural way to get rid of them. Any megabigbox has it.

What's DE?

I have ants throughout my garden, just running around everywhere.Although they climb all over everything in the garden, they don't do any damage to the plants.They are actually quite helpful to me, because they quickly dispose of any damaging pests that I hand-pick from my plants.Next time you find a SVB, stir up an ant hill, and drop him right in there.It'll be toast in minutes.

DE is Diatomaceous Earth. Its microscopic shells or fossils from single cell organisms called Diatoms. The shells are very sharp from the point of view of an insect. It tends to lodge in their joints which cause damage , moving parts and penetrates their wax coating causing dehydration. Although it is a mild irritant to breath people can eat it by the spoonful . It is not a chemical based insecticide.

I am not sure what I would do about ants in the garden. They are actually good at controlling pest insects. I tend to leave them be when outside as they are probably suppressing something worse. They are known to be attracted to aphids so it my indicate another problem .

Fire ants I always kill off (rec: alternate Extinguish & Surrender), but natives species I leave in place as long as they are not actively interfering with my ability to plant / tend / harvest.

please see earlier thread on how a gardener took advice about ants-"live and let live" was the advise they were given. A few weeks later, they learned the hard way that ants are of no real friends to gardens. Get rid of the ants-they are not good for your garden! Give them enough time and they will eventually do damage. They eat leaves, and sweet things like strawberries, and even things like radishes. Theres plenty of stuff out there to get rid of them safely.

When I was watering my square foot box yesterday, litterally gillions(ok not) ant were running for highground. I mean one entire side of my box was covered with ants carrying little white things(eggs?).
Yuck, but my plants show no ill effect
