Broccoli and Cabbage Leaf Pruning

My garden is thriving this year, finally, after a long cool spring. In reading the original SFG book I see where it is ok to cut back cabbage leaves which are encroaching on adjacent grids. Is it also ok to prune back the brocs leaves as well? They seem so similar.
