Any conserve water in barrels?

18 years ago

I would love to develop a system of water containment such that the occasional rain downpours are "captured" for later use. I have seen some examples of barrels-under-your-downspout that look pretty good.

Talking to an Australian guy (from the dry country), he said that almost everyone does this in his parts. They even conserve their "grey water" for later watering.

Has anyone here tried the downspout technique in these parts?
