Purple stems

What problem is causing my tomatoes stems, limbs, and veins to turn dark purple? Started when a friend spread "horse manure" on part of my garden. Happened last year and luckily had more tomatoes in another patch. Planted a few test plants back there this year, same problem.any reply appreciated, Jim

I've had this happen to young seedlings when feeding them with Miraclegrow. It went away shortly after I transplanted them into larger pots and stoped feeding. If I'm not mistaken this is caused by too much nitrogen. Horse manure should be composted before use in order to slow it's nitrogen release and reduce harmful bacteria. hope this helps.
