I just joined this forum, am a new gardener, and just read the latest book (my version of reading, which is kind of frenetic and definitely a lot of skipping). So, take this with a grain of salt but I would think you should be ok. It seems that the main reason he urges us to use different composts is solely because of a lack of diversity, usually. But what you're describing sounds like what we'd make in our back yards, which I think the book endorses as a sole source of compost. (FYI - I haven't started SFG yet. Too hot right now to go out and build stuff.)

Problem with my compost heap is that it's heavy heavy heavy on the coffee grounds but not so much on the veggie castoffs. So, I might have to supplement. Anyhoo. :)

Hellbender - (cool name) The compost will be fine. Just mix some composted manure, and mushroom compost with it - and you will be very pleased. You can get it at the big box stores.

I used 100% municipal yard waste recycling compost in my beds and folks that read my blog would probably agree that it worked out fine. Better than fine some may say. You could do much worse than using that for your compost.

Thanks to all for the encouraging responses. Since my original post I found another source of compost which looks promising. Between the two, it appears I am set. here are the descriptions of the two products:

Compost # 1: The compost is made from thousands of pounds of fruit and vegetable trimmings that are produced each day as a result of UkropÂs fruit and vegetable cutting operation at its Central Kitchen. The ingredients for the compost are leaves, fruit and vegetable trimmings, and minor amounts of wood chips to promote the composting process. (No manure is added to the compost.)

Compost # 2: Made from horse and cow manures, and waste from organically grown vegetables. Use as you would any compost product or make your own potting mix with my vermiculite and soil supplements.
