Pretty much everything you're growing in upstate NY will be quite happy in Spring Hill, TN, plus you're be able to grow many other things as well. And by all means, DO come to the MTPS---lots of good plants, plus you'll get a chance to talk with a bunch of knowledgeable TN gardeners about what and how to grow things here.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I was actually down there last week, and spring hill was WAY too crowded for us. We are now looking at Murfreesboro area, and Smyrna.

I wish I could make the swap, Next year I hope to.

South of Nashville has been booming for the past few years. Have you thought of other areas in Middle Tennessee? If so, think a little further east toward the Upper Cumberland area. There's lots of nice smaller towns. We moved from Long Island to Middle Tennessee. You'll find that gardeners in the south are very generous & willing to share surplus plants. Will you be retiring or do you need to live close to employment? Where in upstate are you from? My husband went to school in Oswego & his niece just graduated from Syracuse. You're going to love Tennessee weather & scenery. Come on down!

My hubby will working at MTSU, so we cant live too far away. Probably no more than 35 mins drive. I live near Binghamton now, we cant wait to move out!

tennesseemom: I'm also from NY originally and now live a little north of Smyrna. Smyrna is a nice small city that's close to Murfreesboro and Nashville, where you can find anything you need. I'm living here in TN since 1979.

Welcome to Tennessee! I moved here from Florida years ago, and love it! We live about 20 miles southeast of Murfreesboro, in the small community of Beechgrove. You may have heard of nearby Wartrace or Bell Buckle. Think rolling hills...

You'll love Murfreesboro - we moved here from NJ about a year ago, about 10 to 15 minutes from MTSU (Savannah Ridge subdivision). Almost all of our neighbors in our subdivision are from California or the northeast! The town is growing at a rapid pace, and we can't wait for the new Avenue outdoor mall to be completed.
Although there are traffic issues, there are tons of new roads and intersections being built off of I-24 which should alleviate those problems within a few years.
We were considering Spring Hill and Smyrna, too, but eventually decided on Murfreesboro - we think you'd like it here! If you need a trustworthy real estate agent, let me know - Ours was incredible, Terrie Sandefur with Prudential Rowland.

I think Murfreesboro is too crowded for us. We are looking at smaller areas in the county. I am used to the country, so well have to see.

We dont want to live in a subdivision.
