Here is a link that might be useful: paste and low seed tomatoes

I have tried the following and liked them:

• Guajito - My current favorite for large production
• Opalka - Nice large paste like tomato
• Orange Banana - Nice off color paste for Pico de Gallo salsa
• Roma - Old sauce standby

I have heard good things about Rio Grande and I am going to try it this year.

I am also growing the follwing this year:

• Gallo Plum
• Black Plum
• Large Italian Paste
• Guajito
• Opalka
• Martino's Paste
• San Marzano Redorta

Good Luck and report back on your choices and results.

Opalka is a great choice if you can get legit seed.

Thanks for the recommendations; keep them coming!

I heard Orange-Banana was a good one. Is it true that the non-reds are lower in acid?

Legit Olpaka? Can you elaborate?
Thanks again!
Robin

I am a huge fan of Opalka. It is the only paste tomato I grow anymore. They are almost all meat, very little seeds.

I think there was something that happened last season where a bunch of people got seeds that did not turn out to actually be Opalka. I bought mine from Seed Savers, and they were true. Hope they are this year too!

Opalka is a large plant, but has wispy (not robust) foliage.

I've had bogus Opalka seeds from two sources in the past, but got legit ones from TGS last year. Now I save my own seeds.

The orange Banana I grow did seem to but less acid now I think about it.

I liked it because it added nice color to fresh salsas and salads.

I've grown orange-banana and it was a cropping machine! Excellent flavor but I can't recall if it was more or less acidic, it was nice in salad or on a BLT and it makes great sauce too. This is a very, very prolific tomato. In summer you'll need to harvest frequently to keep up with the supply.

Hey Marbles_n_the_Garden: Last year a lot of people here got Opalka seeds from Sandhill Preservation which turned out to not be Opalka. Seems that Gary Drowns got Opalka seeds from a non-Legit source. This is what tom8olvr is referring to.

Oh, I see now. Thanks for the info.
