Posted on the Shrubs forum, but thought I'd send it out to local folks...

I noticed this last year a bit, but this past week it has started again - black flies on my Sky Pencil Hollies. They look like house flies, but I can't get a close enough view of the buggers to see if they have other distinguishing characteristics. They seem to be attracted to what looks like small berries/blooms on the holly (not the leaves).

Anyone else have the same or similar problem with anything in the holly family?
