Minderella, you've cut back an entire 24 planting squares, so it makes sense that you would feel the loss! At least now you shouldn't have any trouble reaching through...is that why you cut back? Hopefully, once everything starts to fill in, you'll appreciate the narrower size!

I have three 4x4 beds, plus many large containers for tomatoes (12 containers of 1 plant each), squash (2 of 3 each), melons (2 of 3 each), carrots (many), and strawberries (4 of 3 each) scattered around in the best sunny spots. The longer Rainbow carrots are in a 16 inch straight-sided planter, with a shorter Nantes variety in 8 inch beds, but I've also had some reduction in the depth in those beds in the time those seeds have sprouted, and am not sure how the maturing carrots will respond...they could get gnarly!

BTW, I like having some containers that can be moved around, since this is our first year gardening here. We are at the base of a north-facing mountain, and haven't yet observed how much sun we'll have as fall approaches.
