Soaker hose

I have eight SFG boxes with a soaker hose in each box and 3 ins of mulch on top of each hose. My watering schedule was twice a week for 10 min If I count the boxes starting at the faucet, I always checked the box closest to the garden gate, box #5.The garden did excellent until we hit a drought period. Boxes 1 through 5 continued to do well. Boxes 6 through 8 showed signs of serious stress. The soil in these boxes were dry except the top inch under the hose, boxes 1 through 5 were damp to the bottom of the box. In my opinion 100 ft of soaker hose is to long for consistent distribution of water. I plan on separating the water supply between box 5 and 6 to add another zone with its own controller.

That sure is a bummer, but good to know... Thanks, John. I'm sorry your plants suffered because of the drought. Once you get this fixed, I'm sure they'll do well next time there is a drought.

John - sounds like a good plan to me! One of these days, I may have to install something like that in mine. For now, I don't mind the extra labor. BTW, thanks for telling me about the journal. It's great!

Thanks EG. I hope I do not get in trouble here but the gardenforum is a very friendly forum with less than 1700 members. Often I will get an answer quicker there than most forums and without any advertisements. I will often post the same article on mutable forums, I believe the more info you get the better off you are. In addition, I am not an agent of DanÂs in anyway. Good luck with the journal, it looks good and easy on the eyes. I started my journal so my grandchildren will have an insight into there pappy after I am long gone.
