Tennessee Britches

Just a word about Tennessee Britches. Someone recently told me they were having poor production with Tennessee Britches and they thought it was just a dud variety. Until, that is, it started to come into its own in late July. Then they realized good things come to those who wait.

That's the way Tennessee Britches is. It's a "late bloomer," but if you keep it half-way watered and you keep the weeds out, and you throw away the first ones that may have blossom-end rot, etc., you will be rewarded eventually with the densest, blood-juiciest, breathtakingest hunk of old-fashioned tomato you ever beheld.

And one more thing. This past year (08) a lot of our Tennessee Britches plants were planted real late and they kept producing all the way to hard frost. We brought a bunch in and they kept through December. Didn't taste like they do in August, of course, but they still beat store-bought.
