It is hard to tell from the picture, but I think it is chickory.

Ann, that's it! What a pretty flower. So, if I plant seeds for this, how invasive will it be? I see it growing wild everywhere, but always in the worst possible places.

I love these flowers also. Did you know that you can make chickory coffee from the root? I used to know how but the brain cells I stored that info in seems to have atrophied. I don't have any in my yard, but I'd be happy if some drifted into it.

chickory spreads like wildfire. i would consider it invasive in a garden because you'd start with one and have 100 next year.

to make coffee- pull the chickory including the roots (looks like a little white carrot) wash roots in cool water. place on rack in oven @ 350* until dry and hard. grate in food processor and use like coffee. a little bitter for my taste but i guess in a pinch it would work.
