What went wrong?

Been growing tomatoes for years and have never encountered anything that looks like these. As they ripen on the vine they have these stripes of green/yellow and red. Eventually some of the tomatoes turn completely red (others retain areas of green/yellow) yet when you cut into them they are white inside. None of the tomatoes are red inside. These are 'big beef' tomatoes - which I've grown in the past - and the average size is only 2 1/2" in diameter - certainly smaller than they should be. I've talked to many fellow gardeners and no one has seen anything like this. Any idea what is going on?
