I have three small hibiscus startings...wishing to braid them.

Questions I have:
1) Should I use potting soil since it must be braided for awhile and remain in a pot? Or...use topsoil or a mixture of both.

2) winterize outdoors or inside. Eventually I want this to be in my yard...I remember a friend growing a maple. And said they must winter outside to later survive. Is this true for a hibiscus?
