I'm thinking of putting a row of pleached hornbeams next to a 4' wooden fence to get some added privacy. The hornbeams would have bare trunks up to the height of the fence and then the "hedge" part would be maybe another 4 feet.

Has anyone here ever done anything like this? How far apart do you plant the are the individual trees? How wide should the hedge part be? What do you use to train the part that is pleached?
