I spent a month in Oz, and every city I visited had a Botanical Gaden, all of which were lovely. The most glorious of them all is the one in Adelaide. Aside from being huge, it is absolutely gorgeous, even in the fall (April). Some scenes from the movie "Shine" were filmed there, in particular the 100 meter Wisteria arbour. Ya' gotta see it to believe it!

g'day Dawna. thanks for the lovely compliments. if anyone is coming over for the olympics, the Sydney Botanical Gardens are located in the heart of the city (well in the north-east part of the city anyway!) and are well worth a visit.

Re the Sydney Gardens, it also has some unnusual tennants that always freak out the tourists. In the palm grove there's a colony of 'flying foxes', fruitbats with a wingspan of 6 feet! If you visit, they're quite harmless, just noisy and smelly. Watching peoples reaction when they look up and realise there's over 2oo bats squabbling overhead is priceless. The garden runs down to the harbour and around to the opera house, making it a lovely walk.
