I'm sure you are going to see the "music garden." I saw and heard it last year. The amazing thing is that I had a camera that also did movies. You could not believe the beauty of the grasses moving in the wind with the sound of boat horns in the background (well, one time there was a police siren). I went there with the Perennial Plant Association. Some of my friends rented the headphones, but I opted to just experience the garden. I absolutely love this garden, with the movement and sound of grasses, the butterflies on the butterfly bushes, the alliums dried above the black eyed susans and russian sage. This garden had the movement and sound to be called a music garden. If you email me, I may be able to send you some of my digital movies from the music garden.

I also enjoyed the botanical gardens of the Niagra area. Fortunately I was able to visit some private gardens as well. What a rich area of horticulture. I also visited Humboldt's Nurseries with their wonderful butterfly house.

Linda, thankyou for your suggestions. Being a music lover, I already was intrigued by the idea of a music garden put together by Yo Yo Ma. I am glad to read your enthusiatic thumbs up. I also hope to squeeze in the Butterfly Conservatory. Thanks.

I'm not sure if you have left, but there are several gardens to see in the Toronto area...one of particular interest is Casa Loma, not only a garden but a "castle" of sorts. Being a graduate of the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture (the botanic gardens mentioned previously) I can assure you they are gardens worth seeing...they are entirely maintained by the students of the school. There are several other gardens in the Niagara region that are notable, along with the great wine region of Niagara-On-the-Lake (an area of extreme interest).

Lynda - I am a new gardener and my daughter just moved to Toronto from England. From the sound of your post and some of the others, I cannot wait to visit next spring. Please tell me when is the best month to visit so that I can expierence some of the beauty your describe. should be Humber Nurseries and you will need a car. Niagara Parks School of Horticulture is between the Falls and Niagara on the Lake, near the Whirlpool. Very worthwhile and has an excellent Butterfly Garden. The Royal Botanical Gardens are at Burlington between Niagara and Toronto. In Toronto downtown see St. James Garden, King St. E. and Church, a Victorian garden.Our season now starts with Canada Blooms, indoors in March and in the running to be best such show on the continent. I have seen those of Boston, Philadelpia and San Francisco and would say only Philadelphia competes (and probably loses!)
