papayas dying prematurely

I've planted several papaya seeds in small containers, placed them indoors, and they have sprouted quite well in about three weeks.

After reaching about one inch and having four leaves they start to wither and are all dying.

They are exposed to sunlight during the mornings and sheltered from it in the afternoons, the temperature ranges from 70F to 81F.

Does anyone know what could be the problem?
