I guess you are talking about trees and/or shrubs? Many trees and shrubs do very well when handled as bare root stock. There are advantages to bare root trees such as ease of handling and less shipping costs, but probably the biggest advantage is that you can greatly reduce the chance of girdling roots often found in poorly handled potted trees. One disadvantage in bare rooted trees and shrubs, being planted in late spring or anytime during summer months, is that they can be more susceptible to stress because they lack enough root structure. Since you are considering planting them in the fall, this concern is negligible. If you follow proper planting procedure, mulch well, and keep watered correctly for the first year, your bare root trees or shrubs should do wonderfully.
