Growing a tropical plum in Zone 5

I bought and planted a Golden plum tree I bought locally. I live approx. 100 miles from the Canadian border. Is it feasible to keep this tree healthy over the winters here? If so, I will build a small 10 Ã¯Â¿Â½ 12 ft. greenhouse, vent it and heat it with an electric fan heater. How would I keep the roots warm? The scientific name for this plum is Spondias Purpurea. It originates from the tropical regions of the Americas.

Would the Golden plum tree grow in a container, such as 1/2 of a wooden barrel?

If it's in a pot you can easily use an electric pipe wrap that's used to keep pipes from freezing.
