I received a seedling of the red castor bean at the East TN spring swap. I didn't even get it in the ground until mid-July. It stayed about a foot tall while in its little pot but once it was freed to grow in the ground it did its best to catch up to where it should be! It reached about 7 feet and got quite a few showy seed pods. Neighbors have been asking for seeds. If I'd known that anyone wanted them, I'd have brought some to the river. Sorry!

If you have one this year you'll have a thousand next year.

Yeap, Jeff is right, unless you harvest those seed pods before they pop open and scatter the big seeds all around. I have many every year, but they are very easy to pull up or cut down when they are baby size. I even transplant some to spots I think they will be pretty every year, just do this when they first come up. These will be slower to start growing than the ones that stay put, but they will take off later and catch up.
