Probably not unless they are well mulched and have extremely good drainage. IF you can give them really good drainage, there's a chance they'd make it though winter without rotting.

I'm in Eastern TN about 18 miles north of Knoxville. I brought mine from GA and they are in flower bed at front of house along side of hostas. They bloom every spring. I cut the long green blades back in the fall. They have a small amount of mulch but not a lot.

I have a hardy one that can't be killed no matter what. Someone gave it to me at least ten years ago at the MTPS and the only time that it has been out of the ground is when I moved four years ago.

I live in West Tn. I have a bed of Amaryllis that's been planted for about 20 years. they seem to do OK. I do have good drainage, mulch sometimes when I think about it.

This is so good to know. I dug up my bulbs last week and will take them with me. I also have a long trough full of seedlings that won't bloom for a couple of years but I didn't want to leave them.

Just be sure to add a bit more mulch than you do on other bulbs, I have even grown them in a concrete planter.

OK, we are here now about 50 miles south west of Jackson. I brought my Amaryllis seedlings and a few huge bulbs with me so I hope they will thrive in the ground here. Gardening here will be a totally new experience for a 70+ yr. old gardener. I can't wait to grow things that didn't like IL. Unfortunately I left all of my hostas and other perennials because I didn't really expect we would be moving until spring. The ground was frozen solid so the gardens were left for the new owners (who are NOT gardeners) sigh.

I just came across this forum, which I see the posts are pretty old. I wanted to share my amaryllis experience. I dug about 3 still in bloom plants from SW Louisiana. They traveled in damp paper towels for 10 hours back to Nashville. I put them in a pot, as I read that TN climate is not conducive for ground planting. I have had them for 4 years, in a pot.

In the fall, I bring them into garage, cut back the stems, and winter them. In late March, I notice new greenery, and begin watering. I put them outside in April, in full sun, and this year, I have been given the most gorgeous and plentiful blooms! It is simply gorgeous.

I have a question about dividing. I don't want to kill it, but it appears to be overgrowing its planter. Same with the Gerbera Daisy. I winter them in the garage, and bring them back out in Spring.
