How would we get night privacy with these? Mechanized blinds have chunky mechanism at top. I was wondering about wood doors on hinges on the OUTSIDE of the house. Crazy?

I don't recommend glass doors + wood doors. Perhaps you could use interior shutters if you don't mind blocking some of your view. Like this-
