I've got something like 15-20 clems, all in my roughly 20 x 50 front yard. Also some climbing roses and two honeysuckles. My technique: fences! I have an open fence made of bamboo arches that separates the front and back of my front bed -- with clems all along it. I also have a wooden privacy fence close to the house -- also with clems, and roses. I also have whiskey barrels with roses in them -- also with bamboo trellises in them, with clems on them. And so on!

I must come over and see, Ione. I'm just not getting a clear mental picture of how that works!

Just think "impenetrable jungle" and you've got the basic idea. ;-)
