Nice photo of a great plant .

Here in Northern California this lovely small tree has a bit of an opportunistic attitude.
In the spring, one can be found pulling lots of volunteers around the mother plant.

Several years ago we planted a dry hillside garden in Marin county with these small size trees. They were placed in random order on either side of an undulating decomposed granite path and were underplanted with french lavender and california poppies.
It looked like an Andy Warhol painting when in bloom.

The seed pods on this plant are quite nice to decorate the autumn table with.

I had to go look.

That's one of the blooms from a volunteer orange Cosmos sulphureus hybrid. Another stray seedling popped up in just the right spot in another bed, harmonizing with a group of orange-red marigolds. The Cosmos gets up to 2 1/2 to 3 feet.

Thanks for the information. It looked like an odd sesbania blossom! I wish my sesbania seeds had grown for me. I got them up to about a foot high, then they crapped out. I don't have a clue what happened. If you have a plant to trade, email me.

Hi, I live in the mountains of north Carolina and would like to grow the red Sesbania grandiflora.

Eric, (or anyone) are you growing this outside or in a large pot that you bring inside?

I couldn't get anyone's flower photos from here to come up on my computer.

I grew mine as annuals from seed, planted in a perennial border.
